INTRODUCING ME:
MELODY COX
Hello!
I'm a weekend evening show producer at KMBC 9 News in Kansas City, Missouri. Before this, I was an EP and digital producer at KOMU 8 News in Columbia, Missouri while I was a student at the Missouri School of Journalism. I graduated from the School in May 2020.
I fell in love with telling people's stories and news in late-elementary school. I studied how staple reporters in TV news like Boyd Huppert and Steve Hartman wove together people's stories that always seem to tug on viewer's emotions. My talents and heart lies with producing because I can see an entire show to the end. I am responsible for all of the content in the show. Newscasts shine when producers care about the big and little thing - like building up the lead, working on the flow of the newscast, finding break out opportunities and simply - writing teases that will make viewers stay longer. As a true news junkie, I love the frantic, (slightly) controlled chaos of breaking news.
I'm from Lee's Summit, Missouri - 30 minutes away from Kansas City. I grew up watching amazing journalism and was lucky enough to go to a school district that valued student journalism.
