MID-MISSOURI DEALS WITH WINTER WEATHER NOVEMBER 2018
SECTION OF LIVE NEWSCASTS
November 25, 2018: I produced two shows that day the 5pm and 9pm newscasts. To highlight the winter weather coming into the area, I talked to the chief meteorologist (Kenton) and the weathercaster (Matt) about how to highlight the weather in the newscast. I asked Kenton if he would toss (which weather people at KOMU don't usually do) to Matt and then Matt tossed to the live reporter. It was a lot of fun coordinating with the weather department!
Something I would have changed was opening with a cold VO of the winter weather coming in and affecting roads, maybe a timelapse. With the format of the show having headlines in the 5pm (the live one I added), it was hard to add that.
Overall I liked producing the shows because I loved incorporating new ideas like weather forecaster tossing to reporters and utilizing the PC with Missouri State Highway Patrol stats and MoDOT warnings to the public. I liked how focused the start of my show/A block was weather, and warning viewers of what/where to avoid. After all, weather affects EVERYONE!
