This was a developing story. I reported the day it happened on updates from the Cole County Sheriff's Office. The probable cause statement came out late Friday night/early Saturday morning.

Because this was breaking news, before I followed up on the story, several digital producers worked on the article/web story.

COLE COUNTY — Court documents say the suspect in Friday's deadly Cole County shooting called police about the shooting just minutes after dispatchers got the call.
